This week I e-mailed the guys at dynapack to see what the skinny was about if the dynapacks can handle nitrous pulls. The answer is yes it will do nitrous pulls. Here is the response I got from them.

-----------------------

Hi Dave,

There isn't any special configuration required for the nitrous. You'd set
it up just like a normal autoplot run, then just push the button whenever
you want. I'd recommend waiting until the car is accelerating before you
engage it, and make sure you get off the button before the run is finished,
but that is a recommendation for helping protect the motor - the dyno won't
care. As long as you are not exceeding the maximum torque capacity of the
dyno, the dyno will be fine with it. I've attached a screen shot of what a
nitrous run looks like so you can see it.

If you have any more questions, just let me know.

Thanks,

John Card

Now the facts have gotten even better :). Hopefully he can give me an idea of what it would take them to upgrade the dyno.

-------------

Hi Dave,

Was this in the F1 Autoplot mode and after the acceleration had started?
(after the initial hold point was over) If you look at the graph I sent,
they waited until the run was underway before they hit it. Every time I
have tried it, I haven't had any problems, but that is also with the newer
Ramp software and controller.

If this was at AutosportWerks, I think they have the older software and
controller and it may behave differently - I don't remember trying it on the
step program. The older software uses a "step" program and if the nitrous
hits when the dyno is in between the steps, it could do what you are
describing. One way around that might be to go ahead and hit it during the
initial hold point (maybe raise the start point to a higher RPM to
compensate - then it would probably be OK because it shouldn't be any
different at that point than just a normal higher-powered car.

Let me know how it goes,

John

Does this mean you'll be jumping back on the dyno soon Dave??

Oh I'll be back there. Don't know when yet.
