External Wastegate

What is the proper way to hook up an external wastegate with a MBC? I seem to be having some difficulties.....I have the bottom nipple on the MBC going to the compressor housing and the side nipple to the air fitting on top of the wastegate. The one on the side of the wastegate is open.....it's not working!

MBC goes to the side port of the w/g, NOT the top
