Just wondering if it is possible for a waste gate to break. I am having a problem with my external waste gate not opening while boosting. Haben't had a chance to really look into the problem yet due to the fact that it happened on the way home from work at 11 pm. I am noticing a little bit of an exhaust leak at the exhaust mani/turbo connection, would that have something to do with it also? Just looking for some ideas before I dive in
Thanks

Many things can break. What kind of WG is it? Maybe you can open it and make sure the springs aren't broken or there isn't some other obvious problem... also check to make sure the vac lines are tight

question, how do you know its the WG? whats the car doing to make you think this?

I actually don't know that its the waste gate, it was just something that I had noticed while driving (the wastegate wasn't opening). It is a HKS external. The car was boosting fine all day long and then it started to whine while boosting and now it won't boost past .7(bar) no matter where I set my boost controller. I did check the thrust bearing and it is not loose at all. I know that i had a problem with the thrust bearing once before and TEC told me to make sure that there is no play on the thrust bearing, well there is not. I am going to do a compression test today and check all the vaccum lines and let you guys know what i find

Uhm, if the wastegate WASN'T opening you'd have an overboost problem, not an underboost problem. I suggest you look to the turbo to be the problem.

check all your i/c connections. you may have blown a coupler somwhere.

I figured as much about the overboost. I check the compression and had 120-130 across the board. but i did find on my exhaust manifold that 1 nut was missing from th turbo to manifold connection and the other 3 were loose as all hell. So I am headed to the store to get a nut and go from there

a mani leak would deffinetly effect the turbo's ability to boost.
