first of all, if this in the wrong spot, feel free to move it. now, about 2 months ago i was bed ridden for about two weeks. i was looking through a magazine and saw an add for applying for sponsorship from Racer X Motorsports. you could win a skyline just by entering so i thought "what the hell, i'll do it". well 2 months passed and no word. i had actually forgot i entered (lots O' pain pills). i got a call from them a few days ago and they said i was accepted! at first i called bullshit and thought it was a scam. after talking at length with them i felt more comfortable and agreed. the deal is this: for one year they basically pay for half of all my mods up to $10,000!!! this means i can put $10,000 into my car and they will match it.....so who has $10,000 you ask? well it gets better. i can do as much or as little as i want. i just call them up and tell them what i want and they charge my card for half of the cost and they pay the other half. they work with over 150 vendors. ACT, Forced Performance, and Mitsubishi to name a few. i started to think of the possibilities and holy shit what a deal!! i was about to shell out $700-$800 for my clutch parts and now i only have to pay $300 for a clutch and flywheel and all the goodies......so you want that internally gated Green you say? how's $500 bucks sound....JIC coilovers, $900....you get the idea. my question is this: has anyone heard about this being a scam? it just sounds too good to be true. they are sending a contract out right now which i will have a lawyer look at ASAP. if it does turn out to be true, my advice is for everyone here to apply. they look for people who frequent the track by the way. sorry this is so long and please give some feedback. they are giveing 10 away in colorado. full on race cars can get FULL sponsorships up to $30,000!!! thanks for checking this out.

one other thing. my part of the deal is to put two 3"X7" stickers on my car and attend 4 event in the 12 month period at my discretion(sp?). IDRC, COY'S import showdown are 2....now i have an excuse to go to the DSM shootout in Ohio next year:D

I have heard of this, there was a guy trying to sell one on the trader, and codsm said it was a scam, but who knows. It sounds awesome, the only problem is that I can probably find better prices then what they are willing to give you. Will they match the best price that you can find, and then go in halve with you? If they would, that would be awesome, think of all the possibilities. I just shelled a descent amount of money into my car in the past year, heck 6 months! The car is ready for some paint, possibly a kit, wheels, turbo, and finally a built engine and head. Anyhow let us know how it turns out.

I have seen the sticker on Shep's car at the shootout and on another one of the local DSMs here. I believe they are legit. Where did you find out the number of cars they needed from each state? Last I heard it was just 1 from each state...?

when they called to say that i was accepted i asked him how many per state. he told me around 8-10. shep is indeed one of their guys. even if they charge full retail (which they don't) i will still save money because i will only be paying for half. oh ya, as far as "selling one on the trader" this would be impossible. it's gonna end up being pretty sweet i think and a BIG help with getting my car where i want it to be. one other part of the deal is for me to find other "clean cars with owners that will represent RacerX well". so i'll be checking out dsm's at bandi and second creek first and foremost........no ricers need apply.hahaha!!!(evil laugh here). but really, i think everyone should apply. it's a win-win no matter what. you get half of your stuff for free and all you have to do is go race your car four times a year. who doesn't do that anyway???

Jmakado, what did your lawyer say about the contract? Curious, because I am already sponsored through them, I am trying to save some money on my 4-spider. The guy with the EVO, Erik is going to call Speed-Design on Monday and see if they can't work something out. I figured I would tried, a little suprised they pushed my contract through so quick. Another thing, it seems that this is not like an exclusive sponsorship; it seems they sponsor quite a few people. My friend with a WRX was offered the sponsorship after a few months, and he has nothing really done to the car.
Anyhow, let me know what your lawyer said.
Thanks, Chad

A buddy of mine that I grew up with in Alaska, he lives in Vegas and he got sponsored through them and gets pretty good deals but he also owns a Prelude.

Well, they took $79 out of my account, so they better be sending me info on the sponsorship. If I remember reading it correctly, they say they will only take the money if they are offering a sponsorship. Does anyone know ... or if they could ask one of their sponsored friends ; Being John Shepherd is a sponsor, does he discount his race trannys :) That's one of the only things I'm interested in this sponsorship for. :)

hey everyone, sorry for the slow response. i am getting ready to order some stuff. it all seems worth it. you can order from a few different distributors (sp?) options auto salon, Mantaray motorsports, airborne motorsports, or right from them. they have TONS of company's that you can order from. i wish i could remember them all, it was pretty much anything though. from ACT to Volk wheels. i'll give you my example of what i am buying next from them. act flywheel $270, 2600 clutch kit $400, B&M Shifter $150. total---$830. my price--$415......so as you can see, you could do better than what they offer for prices. once you take out the 50% though, it is pretty good. next up is an AFC and a front mount:D and yes.....you can get half off of shep's stuff.

That's a good thing that someone is getting good deals through them. I was offered the sponsorship and told that when I recieved the contract that if I had changed my mind or did not like it that they would refund the $79. And if I did decide to be 'sponsored' by them that the $79 would be credited on my first order from them... Doesn't sound too bad to me...

jmakado, have you actually ordered and confirmed that price? Because you are being mislead, or I got screwed in my contract! You can save money, true, but it depends on what you buy, certain manufactuers offer different % savings. Msd offers 55% off retail, but optima, wheel lug nuts, shepracing, offer minimal discounts. That half is BS!!, I spoke to them when I was researching buying parts, and got the real scoop of how the contract really works. Anyhow, normally I can find better or equivalant deals used or elsewhere. FP, offers a small discount, they told me that I would save $200max on a green, which is still cool, but not half.
Let me know how your final buying experience goes, because from what I have experienced and have been told, that is BS!

i've heard bad things and a class action lawsuit has been filed against them out east. I wouldn't send them my $80.

Just my $0.02. Remember they *have* to be making money somehow. If it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

A local got them to pay 50% of his quaife for his 2g fwd. That's pretty good to me. But I know he said that it varies on what you buy. Does anyone know what Shep offers through them, I emailed shep about them and their relationship with him, hopefully he will get back to me soon on their legitimacy.
