Why do people not want to stick with tried and true?

Unless you are going really really fast right now (in which case you wouldn't be asking this question) get an ACT 2600. It works, it holds pretty decent power and you can get it from any reputable DSM vendor. Then you won't have to pull the tranny again from your daily driver when you $200 clutch eats it in 1000 miles. If you can't afford a good clutch then you shouldn't be modding your DSM. If you aren't modding your dsm then get an OEM clutch. They are pretty cheap.

Where is the best place to get the 2600?

Can't go wrong with RRE in my experience. Also locally Turbo Garage.

www.roadraceengineering.com
www.turbogarage.com

Both shops have done me right everytime. If by best you meant absolute cheapest I'm afraid I don't know the answer.

Yea the act 2600 is a good clutch. Also the Centerforce DF is a nice clutch, it not as heavy as the 2600 and still holds up really nice, so as long as you are not push high HP through your tranny the DF is another choice

The ACT 2600 isn't heavy. My 100 lb girlfriend doesn't think it's very heavy so I'm pretty sure most guys wouldn't :D

Order it from Buschur. I ordered a 2100 and they sent me a 2600 then I called and bitched about it (don't ask) and they sent me a braided clutch line for free. lol

Anyways the 2600 has pretty hard pedal pressure if your a pansy. If you don't have somewhat strong legs, get the 2100. You'll be fine with either one. The original reason I ordered a 2100 was cause my g/f drives the car sometimes. I'm happy with the 2600 though except for the fact I've broken 2 axles in 1 week cause it grabs like a mofo.

The act 2600 is not heavy for say but when comparing it to a DF it like night and day. THe act 2600 is not that bad unless it a daily driver and you sit in traffic all the time and just don't want to deal with it.

THe next time I replace my clutch I most likely be going with a 2600 just because I won't be driving as much on the streets now that I am in college, but back in GA I had to drive in rush hour traffic so I had stop and go for bout 2 hours and the DF start to get heavy then so I was glad I did not go with 2600. Yes I know I am lazy somedays but after skating for 4 hours then sitting in traffic for 2 hours it would suck.

I had a 2100 in my car and it lasted 1 year and less than 10k and a bit over 50 drag launches which really sucked;then came the 2600,I was on my 2nd one when I sold it and with each 2600 I got about 18k and I was at 120+ drag launches on it. The 2600 is the way to go on a DSM unless you're laying down even more power.

It's a 7.5" dual disc (puck style) made by PowerTrain Technology.

It requires a "custom" flywheel.

The whole assembly is under 14 lbs.

I can't really quote a price because I got a special deal and I don't know what the current deal is.

cool, thanks for the info!! i'm thinking twin disc for sure as of late. i'm just trying to learn some things about them so i can make an educated buy. i want something that will be good for *everything*: drag racing, road racing, autoX, and also daily driving :) a twin disc just seems far superior to a 2600 etc.

I was wondering when you would bring that up. The twin disk is a good setup and will likely be my next clutch.

But the OP probably wasn't interested in it at ~$1000. Hal correct me if the ballpark is wrong...

Yeah, the retail price for the flywheel/clutch combo would be closer to $1200.

This is NOT a clutch for a "daily driver".

It has great feel/control, but it takes about 4k to slip it when starting out from a stop.

how about the HKS twin disc clutch for a daily driver? they tout it as a clutch that will hold high power but with low pedal pressure so hence the idea that i had for a *perfect* all around clutch. any ideas?

Exedy I think would be a better one since they offer a twin disc setup that has sprung discs available (for daily driving that is).
